A full description of the collections and the layout of the gallery
appears on the National
Portrait Gallery website.
Bodelwyddan Castle is a regional partner of the National Portrait
Gallery, housing many wonderful portraits from the 19th Century
collections of the London-based national museum. In addition, the
Castle displays
collections of furniture from the Victoria & Albert Museum,
and sculpture from the Royal Academy of Arts. The Caste Trust also
administers
a collection relating to the history of the house and estate including
photographs and effects from the days when the Castle was the home
of Lowther College. |

Thanks to financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the
National Portrait Gallery, the new permanent and temporary exhibitions
areas were
opened in May 2003. These galleries are used to interpret portraiture,
display temporary exhibitions of works from the National Portrait Gallery
and other museums, and offer an opportunity for visitors to browse
the digitised images from the National Portrait Gallery collections
using
the Woodward Portrait Explorer.
Portrait Explorer
This is an interactive computer-based exploration of the collections
of the National Portrait Gallery. A special new gallery has been
created within the exhibition spaces at Bodelwyddan Castle where
you can spend some time finding your favourite artist or sitter,
or simply browse your way through the collections. |
