quiz sheets available for primary age children.
1)
‘Rhymes and
Riddles’, answer
the riddles and brain teasers as you tour the Castle (in English only).
Answer sheet available for teachers.
Suitable for upper KS2 pupils.
2)
‘I spy…’,
a visual quiz in which pupils are encouraged to hunt for clues in each of the
rooms. Suitable for all ages,
including Reception and KS1.
Audioguides
are available in English, basic English and Welsh.
These give visitors a 40 minute tour of the Castle in the character of
members of the Williams family who lived here.
Making
Portraits is a suite of
galleries with low-tech interactives designed to help you discover how paintings
communicate. Themes include
self-portraiture and group portraits. Ideal
for group work.
The charge for
self-guided visits is £2.00 per pupil. Accompanying
adults are free of charge. This
includes access to all areas of the Castle and grounds.
Taught sessions
Discover some
of the clues left by the Castle’s Victorian inhabitants and learn about what
it was like to grow up in this magnificent house.
Find out about the people who worked here and some of the jobs they were
expected to do. This tour includes
opportunities to dress up, handle objects used by domestic staff and play
Victorian parlour games.
Suitable for
KS1 and KS2. Lasts 1 hour.
This is
hands-on session based in the Victorian Toys & Games room.
Compare genuine Victorian dolls and bears with modern toys and discuss
different types of materials. Play
with a range of replica toys. Look
at different types of toys that move, including steam, clockwork and
battery-operated. Introduce the idea
of moving pictures and how these kinds of toys fascinated Victorian children and
adults alike.
Suitable for
Reception/KS1. Lasts 1 hour.
A printmaking
workshop inspired by the Victorian designs and patterns to be seen in
